Starter: get out your composition book.

·       Label the first page in large lettering “Hon Bio Class Journal”

 On the second page, put today’s day and Date (Tues 9/2/11)

Question:

If you have to study for a really important test, how do you usually do it? Explain your study routine.

Starter:

When was the last time you studied anything about biology? What grade? What School?

Essential Question:

How do your behaviors affect the risk of doing labs and how can you minimize that risk?

·       THROW AWAY THE LAB SAFETY BROCHURE PAGE. We are not doing that.

·       Read the 1st page of “Laboratory Safety Rules” to yourself.

·       Choose a partner from another lab table. At the bottom of page 2, (where pictures start) write “Partner _______________ and fill in their full name. Working with that partner, match the pictures to the unsafe behavior it portrays. Explain why the behavior is potentially risky.

·       Continuing to work with that partner, analyze the description of a day in the lab as described in the directions. Anything not finished is to be done for homework.

Completed papers go in your notebook. When you are finished, let me know and I will stamp it.

Would you be safe in a lab run by this person?

Return homework to owner once it is checked.

Essential Question:

Answer this in your journal: What does it mean to be ALIVE? What happens that Makes you DEAD?

Read a partners answer. Try to find organisms that are alive but DON’T fit what they said living things are.
